Welcome to my Cross for LifeFlight Fundraising Page!
For the third year in a row I will be doing the Cross for LifeFlight in memory of my brother Matt. Matt enjoyed taking advantage of all of the wonderful things Maine has to offer. One of his favorite areas was Jackman. On August 3, 2020, Matt was involved in a tragic accident at his camp. He was transported by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. On August 6, 2020, he succumbed to his injuries.
From August 3rd to August 6th I will be biking from Jackman to Bangor to commemorate the time he spent in the hospital.
The remainder of the month I plan to log miles while exploring various areas of Maine.
This event is important to me because it is a way to remember my brother and his love for the great State of Maine. It is also important to me as a Paramedic. For the past 20 years I have had a career in EMS in Maine. Living an working in Southern Maine, I am lucky to have very quick access to a Level 1 Trauma Center. But Maine is a large state and access to medical care can be challenging. That is why LifeFlight of Maine is so incredibly important, providing lifesaving emergency medical care to Maine's many island and rural communities.
LifeFlight of Maine is a nonprofit organization and the state’s only emergency medical helicopter service. With three helicopters, an airplane and ground ambulances, LifeFlight brings ICU-level care directly to the patient. Now in its 25th year as Maine’s only air ambulance service, LifeFlight has served more than 36,000 patients, one life at a time, from every community and hospital in the state.
LifeFlight plays a critical role in the “chain of survival” by connecting people to the care they need. People who live in Maine and people who visit Maine—including me—depend on LifeFlight to be there for them. I’m comforted to know that they’ll be there for me, and for my friends and family, should the unthinkable happen.
I’m going to make my crossing to support this important cause. Won’t you support it, too? Just click on the “donate” button. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for supporting my efforts, and mostly, for supporting this critically important service.
