Between August 1 and August 31, I will be doing my own Crossing to support LifeFlight of Maine, a challenge that will symbolize the difficulties of providing lifesaving emergency medical care to Maine's many island and rural communities.
As the administrative chief of North Haven EMS, it has always been abundantly clear to me how important LifeFlight of Maine is to the island communities. But now that I am being treated for breast cancer and am unable to take call myself, our aid partners are even more essential. When we are understaffed, knowing that LifeFlight can arrive to not only transport, but also treat even the highest acuity patients, is reassuring.
I hope you will join me this year in once again raising the essential funding LifeFlight needs to continue to create a bridge between rural Mainers and advanced care.
