I have been a LifeFlight of Maine Nurse for the past 8 years, and I have personally seen the importance of the work we do providing the people of Maine with the critical health care and transport they require. The ability to support the needs of the members of our many rural communities and islands as well as everyone in Maine whether a resident or guest is truly a privilege, and I continue to be humbled by the opportunity to be a part of such an organization.
Between August 1 and August 31, I will be doing my own Crossing to support LifeFlight of Maine, I will be riding my bike around the Penobscot Bay in sections, from all of which one can see Islesboro, the location of the original "Crosses", and I will finish my month up with a ride around the island itself.
For those of you who are not as aware as others about LifeFlight of Maine and the work we do, here is a synopsis:
LifeFlight of Maine is a nonprofit organization and the state’s only emergency medical helicopter service. With three helicopters, an airplane and ground ambulances, LifeFlight brings ICU-level care directly to the patient. As Maine’s only air ambulance service, LifeFlight has served more than 42,000 patients, one life at a time, from every community and hospital in the state.
LifeFlight plays a critical role in the “chain of survival” by connecting people to the care they need. People who live in Maine and people who visit Maine depend on LifeFlight to be there for them.
