Years ago, I had the good luck to work at The Great Courses with some truly terrific people, including the wonderful Cat Lyon. She was one of the great "professor whisperers" - smart, funny, patient, and a lovely person to boot. Years later I ran into her again in Maine at a local concert where she was playing the guitar, and I've attached a photo of us smiling. Honestly, I hope whoever reads this has at some point in their lives had the good fortune to work with such a fantastic colleague.
Ok, here is the sad part. Cat's much loved daughter Rebecca died suddenly a few months ago, and the word went out to the TTC/Great Courses alumni about the tragedy. LifeFlight Maine had come through for Rebecca in a previous medical emergency, and thanks to their efforts she had two more good years of life. So to honor Cat and remember Rebecca, I am raising money LifeFlight Maine.
Having now been to Maine multiple times in the past few years and driven along its beautiful coast, I can appreciate what a vital role LifeFlight plays in getting people to the right medical care quickly, especially when time is the main factor on whether you live or die. So if you have ever wanted to roam in some of the more remote corners of the country, I hope you will consider paying it forward and making a donation to LifeFlight.
